Introduction
At Long Haul, our goal is to encourage creative people to take time with their artistic process, and to make art with the intention of leaving behind something beautiful for generations to come. One of the ways we intend to do this is to allow artists to share their work in a setting that encourages the communication of ideas among all artistic disciplines. We believe this is a benefit in that creatives can test-run their work before a formal presentation, contextualize art in its desired physical space, or visualize a different response/audience which will in turn change the way the projects themselves are formed.
Most outlets that creative people have to show their work do not reward an innate desire to create, but instead reward perfection and art that is fast-paced and repeatable. Artists are therefore encouraged to be competitive with the people they have the most in common with, and are discouraged from showing up authentically. Even just by reading this blog post, we hope people will know there is a growing movement of people who are learning to be ok with things taking a long time.
And so we come to the creation of this blog. As of now, Long Haul is not a place that physically exists, so in the meantime, we hope artists will submit to this online gallery and share what motivates them. If you are interested in submitting or would like more information, please email longhaulcafe@gmail.com :)
